Earlier this month, my university was visited by a widely respected American journalist. This was a woman who was a true journalist in every sense of the world, a person with a keen sense of outrage and an admirable compassion for the downtrodden. Her work had lead to legislative changes and had helped the lives of countless unheard voices.
In her speech, she talked about the rise of new media, and the need for journalists to become socially connected and technologically aware. She recommended starting a blog and a Youtube channel. We should embed ourselves within the internet.
I have been a member of the blogging community for a long time now. I began when I was 17, when I left home and travelled interstate to Canberra, Australia. At first, my blogging aspirations were simply to recount stories to my friends and family back home. Then it progressed to opining on more important issues - to love, life and politics.
This blog is an extension of that. It is a place to document my personal thoughts on issues like human rights, race relations and religion. These are areas I hope to report on in the future.
While many posts will simply be clippings and links to interesting stories, I will try to write in-depth occasionally on issues that interest me. I also hope to begin posting YouTube videos of commentary to aid this and make it a bit more interactive. This is primarily a self indulgent excercise for me, but please follow if you wish!
